Unfortunately, the parallel in the Dumbarton Oaks collection also has an unclear first line. The editors complete ЄΛIN as Elinagos, a Bulgarian commander known from narrative sources. However, our seal shows that this reading is not possible, as the initial letter is K rather than Є. The Dumbarton Oaks catalogue opts to complete the military command as referring to the Armenian province of Taron, rather than Tarsos, since the latter toponym would most likely be abbreviated TAPC.
